Father
Words cannot describe the kind of man that you are
As I gaze into the heavens, I see God's shining star
I focus on my thoughts and tears quickly sting my eyes
As I vision you, my father, so strong and so wise
I recall my days of childhood, so happy and carefree
To live life so securely, it was you who held the key
As the family's provider, assuring all our needs were met
You proved my days of nurturing were lived without threat
When time came for parting, wings spread, you were my wind
You were there as my strong arm and forever faithful friend
As tears filled your eyes, you wished me the best
With all I may encounter, on my ventures or quests
With hands that are withered from time and labored days
I'd give all that I own now, to have given you more praise
Just because we are grown, with busy lives that we lead
It's no reason to dismiss, the one who helped us succeed
Your support in my life now, is a need that's so profound
It's your help that keeps me planted firmly on the ground
With a love that flows eternal, your strength is my rock
And your protection is ferocious when fear comes to knock
You will always be my hero, no one else can hold a light
Taking "first place" in my heart, it's your God given right
And time and time again, I give thanks and I am glad
That God took the time, to choose you to be my dad
(Dedicated to my Dad)
