Mother

Where do I begin to tell you how much you mean to me
You're God's brightest star, anyone would agree
You give entirely of yourself, asking nothing in return
You want only the best for me, it's your greatest concern

You are my closest friend, with an ever lending ear
And right there to hug me when I need to shed a tear
When hard times creep in, your support is so profound
And you promptly remind me when I'm wearing a frown

On the day you gave me life, such pain you had to bear
Yet you bore it so selflessly with a love that none compares
And through my growing years, more pain I have bestowed
But you faltered, not once, your love continues to flow

With a smile, you encourage me to reach for that "star"
And you're always insisting a little spirit will take me far
The times when I've stumbled, there was faith in your heart
And you instilled in me the will to begin a new start

Whatever I accomplished, you viewed it with pride
But you assured me as well, all that mattered was I tried
Many times I've neglected to say a simple, "thank you"
But you always dismissed it, as if you already knew

The sacrifices you've made make tears fill my eyes
And to bear them without wavering is of no surprise
I'm overwhelmed with affection that's unlike any other
For the love of my best friend, my dear, precious mother
