Friendship

As I sit here and ponder my journeys of life
all the joys, the struggles, the pain.
I sometimes wonder if I could have survived
had it not been for friendships I've gained.

The gift of true friendship so rare is it's find
like diamonds it sparkles the rough.
So precious and dear, like one of a kind
when found we can't praise it enough.

As I try to define what I feel is a "friend"
the assessment please note is my own
and if I fall short it was not my intent
but reflection of friendships I've known.

A friend gives you comfort when sorrows creep in
with compassion and insight in tow.
As their guiding light brings joy once again
to a heart that had once lost its glow.

A friend shares your happiness with laughter abound
and delight that is so much like your own.
Such genuine joy true friendship surrounds
is a bonding like none that I've known.

A friend will respect you no pressures you'll find
integrity they too will hold dear.
With honor and ethics a must for mankind
these values that show we're sincere.

A friend will stand by you no matter the cost
as you battle life's struggles and strife.
Your pillar of faith as you thwart the exhaust
true friends will stand by you...for life!
