Raindrops On A Car Window

A little girl in a car,
silent and patient, all alone.
The blue and red lights spin above,
outside her house, another broken home.
The door is closed.
As I look through into her sad eyes, I drown.
It's raining but I didn't notice,
her tears on the window rolling down.
Some idiot didn't think,
as they brought out her mum,
covered and wrapped in a black bag,
right in front of her, so young.
Then her dad,
those idiots unthinking again,
bring out her dad in bounds.
Don't they have a brain?
Without knowing that I'd turned away,
I turn to face her once more.
Still silent and patient, alone.
Her only tears are running down,
the window of the door.
Five years old she is,
her birthday just the other day.
All day her parents argued,
but she's used to things that way.
That's what happened now.
Her parents had a fight,
her daddy pulled a knife,
and stabbed her mummy,
with all his might.
I see a woman in a uniform,
carry an umbrella to the flashing car.
She tries to talk to the girl,
but she doesn't get far.
The little girl stays silent,
as her mummy's body drives away,
her daddy pushed in another flashing car,
and leaves without delay.
It's then I notice the blanket,
wrapped around her naked frame,
not hiding the bruises,
that I didn't notice when I came.
I hear people around me whispering.
'...heard what happened didn't you..'
'...and her mum walked in...'
'...killed his wife,
raped his daughter too...'
The rain falls down my face,
tumbling from my eyes.
I realize raindrops,
running down a window,
aren't the little girls cries.
How could I be so stupid?
This little girl will never cry.
She'll never talk.
She'll try to forget,
the day her innocence died.
Just five years old,
saw her Mummy die,
saw Daddy go to prison.
She'll forever wish,
those raindrops were her cries.
